Regtech (Regulatory Technology) is a branch technology designed to help financial organisations meet the regulatory expectations of the regulator.  These expectations from the regulator vary from region to region and cover many different regulations including KYC / AML On-Boarding of clients, Counter Terrorism Financing, Criminal Activity Prevention and Market Abuse Directive.  Many of these regulations have been introduced or enhanced following the Global Financial Crisis to bolster consumer protection.  However, as a result financial institution have had to recruit armies of compliance officers to make sure that they comply.  JP Morgan spends $1.4b per-year to meet compliance requirements.
